Girl Rising portrays the lives of nine young girls from around the world, including Haiti, Peru, India, Afghanistan, Egypt, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, Nepal and Cambodia and the challenges they face being a girl denied an education. The film captures the devastating harsh realities young girls around the world face every day and the adversities that manifest as they grow into women.
The Girl Rising film screening event hosted by MelimeL Digital Art Design is a parallel opportunity to share with audiences the importance of women empowerment on a global scale; to advocate education for all youth; and discuss the worldwide benefits of empowering young girls to ensure they receive a proper education and break cycles of poverty in their families and future generations.
MelimeL Digital Art Design hosts an annual women empowerment panel event in March to coincide with Women’s History Month, and the film’s topic is compatible with discussions and topics that arise from the panel. It is a great opportunity to keep audiences engaged and raise awareness about the important role education plays in the lives of young girls and women internationally. The Girl Rising film uses the slogan “Educate a girl, change the world” - a powerful statement! Learn more at www.girlrising.com
The film screening event starts promptly at 6pm followed by a discussion/Q & A session afterwards, featuring Veralyn Williams (Journalist, Veralyn Media; Co-Founder of Telem Center for the African Child), Johnny Ronelus (STEM Educator & Instructional Designer), and Galit Adani (Founder & Executive Director of Dance To Unite).
